Profile of Uma Sudhindra:
Uma Sudhindra is an entrepreneur, writer & an analyst in political science & international relations. With 16 years of corporate experience in human resources, she has constantly worked on researching & understanding issues pertaining to democracy, use of technology for better processes in organisational governance (be it corporates, political or education). A degree in Economics & Political Science and a Master’s in International Relations, she continues to pursue her interest in these subjects.
Uma has been writing for various online & offline publications on softer aspects of the Armed Forces, governance & women’s empowerment. Growing up in an army environment, seeing the Armed Forces from close quarters, she uses all her life’s experiences in her writing. Her passion for the defence services has led her to work with Akhil Bhartiya Poorva Sainik Seva Parishad (ABPSSP). She is the Chief Coordinator for the skill development cell of this ESM organisation and is involved in helping the veterans and their families in post-retirement employment/self-employment opportunities.
Her focus on women’s empowerment laid the foundation for her NGO “I’m Every Woman” and Project DURGA. Project DURGA focuses on training & coaching women & girls on safety issues and challenges in day to day life. The NGO is also working with the Government of Karnataka to install safety alarms in buses to deter crime. Uma is actively involved in certain governance issues in Bangalore & writes about the same.
Uma is an active member of Forum for Integrated National Security (FINS), Mumbai and works very closely with Lt Gen DB Shekatkar (Veteran) on topics related to national security. She is also a member of United Services Institution (USI), Delhi. Uma has actively participated in conferences & conclaves conducted by various think tanks including FINS, USI & India Foundation.
A regular speaker & faculty at various educational institutions, Uma brings in a subtle sense of humour in her talks that makes her messaging effective. She has been involved with youth awareness programs & guides certain social engineering groups that empower the youth to get involved in local governance.
